The first priority of any newborn session is the baby’s safety. Please make sure that you can assist by staying in arms length of your child. Please stay alert and mindful of your baby. Even when the baby is asleep, they can become easily startled and may kick out which could result in possible injury depending on the location or pose they are in. Do not ever worry about getting in the way or being too close while I am taking photos (hands and arms can always be edited out!).
I will be using a 50mm fixed lens which means that a certain amount of distance is needed between the camera and subject to achieve a certain look, especially with full body poses. A stepping stool will be required for some overhead shots. I will always have the camera on a strap around my neck in these instances for safety reasons.
Depending on the time of year, there will be a fan heater to warm the room prior to your arrival and a small electric blanket will be used to warm the posing bag before we place your baby onto it. Please be mindful of electrical cords from heating devices and lighting equipment when you navigate the studio.
A white noise machine will be used to settle your baby during the sitting. If you have an app on your phone or machine that you would prefer to bring instead, please do so. This combined with the use of a pacifier will serve as excellent tools to settle your baby. Even if the baby does not normally take a pacifier, it could be the difference in being able to get certain poses.
The “froggy pose” is achieved by combining two images in Photoshop. A newborn can not naturally support themselves in this position, and it is very dangerous for the baby. At present, I do not offer this pose as part of the collection for safety reasons.
If you do not like a particular prop or colour theme, please let me know immediately before time is taken to settle the baby into the pose for that specific prop or colour theme. I want you to absolutely love your photos so please don't be afraid to speak out.
The session will go at your baby’s pace, so there is no need to feel stressed if your baby takes time to settle. If at any point in the session you wish to stop and sooth your baby or just want a little cuddle, please let me know. The amount of different poses we can get through will depend on how your baby is feeling on the day and the collection you have chosen.
